Group Processes on Belonging. Details below
All too often we find ourselves working in environments where we feel we don’t belong! These reflective specialist workshops explore and open the doors to identifying, accepting and healing those feelings whilst building inner courage and confidence, celebrating the strength of vulnerability and providing a buffet table of next steps for individuals and groups to expore.

The afternoon brought another incredible experience, led by the lovely Brenda Rattray from Voice Expressions (voiceexpressions.co.uk).
In preparation for the session, Brenda asked each participant to select three songs that resonated with their current mood. For me, this was an easy yet reflective exercise:
1. Same Old Spot by Murkage Dave (YouTube link)
2. 7am by Hak Baker (YouTube link)
3. Self-Control by Frank Ocean (YouTube link)
These songs have been on constant repeat for me and hold significant meaning in my personal journey. Brenda also asked us to bring an item of significance, which initially felt like a tough choice. Ultimately, I chose my Pandora bracelet, a daily companion adorned with charms gifted by my mother and late grandmother. Each charm symbolises their love and support, making the bracelet a deeply sentimental piece.
Brenda’s session was nothing short of transformative. She created an inclusive and judgment-free space where participants could be vulnerable and expressive. Through guided activities, Brenda encouraged us to explore personal experiences using spoken word and storytelling. I felt safe to share my emotions surrounding the loss of my grandmother—a deeply personal and healing moment.
What made this session so unique was its balance of creativity and emotional resonance. Unlike traditional workshops, it was high-energy and engaging while gently addressing personal struggles. Importantly, there was no pressure to disclose sensitive information. Instead, participants were simply invited to share as much or as little as they felt comfortable with.
This workshop was unlike any I had ever attended. It broke away from the formality of conventional academic events, prioritising creativity, personal growth, and wellbeing. Both Kiz and Brenda created an atmosphere that allowed participants to explore difficult emotions while fostering self-care and community support.
I would be remiss not to give a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Metka Potočnik for organising and facilitating this exceptional day at the Springfield Campus. Her vision and effort provided the perfect backdrop for creativity and healing to flourish.
I left the event feeling not just inspired but deeply thankful—for the connections made, the creative tools learned, and the emotional space provided. This day served as a reminder that creativity is not just a skill but a pathway to wellbeing and self-discovery.
Thankfully, this is just the beginning. Along with other participants, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to embark on a songwriting journey where our stories will come to life as songs. With the guidance of experienced songwriters and a talented recording engineer, these pieces will not only capture our personal narratives but also transform them into art that resonates with others. Watch this space!
