Say their names!!

This page holds and shares stories that move me to ask why……………..

Say their names:

Hideko Hakamata and Iwao Hakamata

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c24nrr0mv4go?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-gb

Hideko has her brother home again and that is all that matters……….. No amount of Money can be given to compansate them for their years of suffering………….

But Hideko refuses to linger on the question of what their lives might have looked like if not for such an egregious miscarriage of justice.

When asked who she blames for her brother's suffering, she replies: "no-one".

"Complaining about what happened will get us nowhere."

Her priority now is to keep her brother comfortable. She shaves his face, massages his head, slices apples and apricots for his breakfast each morning.

Hideko, who has spent the majority of her 91 years fighting for her brother's freedom, says this was their fate.

"I don't want to think about the past. I don't know how long I'm going to live," she says. "I just want Iwao to live a peaceful and quiet life."

Today I feel moved by the story of : Hideko Hakamata and her brother Iwao Hakamata

A mother’s cry is a song story reflection that may well encompass a fraction of the pain experienced in this amazing sister’s love for her wrongly accused brother………..

All too often we find ourselves working in environments where we feel we don’t belong! These reflective specialist workshops explore and open the doors to identifying, accepting and healing those feelings whilst building inner courage and confidence, celebrating the strength of vulnerability and providing a buffet table of next steps for individuals and groups to expore.

I had a very enjoyable Voice Expressive workshop sharing time at the Music Teacher Conference this month!

Reach for the positive: the Expressive Voice

In an age characterised by polarising commentary, how do we foster resilience, self-care and caring for others through music? This session will share new repertoire ideas for teachers leading singing in primary and secondary schools. Named after the song ‘Reach for the Positive’, written by the speaker, the session will explore ways of using the voice expressively and as a tool for promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and self-care. It will explore the profound impact that music and language can have on emotional wellbeing, reminding teachers that if they feel good, their students will leave the class feeling amazing!
